Kirsten Knudsen’s main field of research is observational extragalactic astrophysics. Her research is focused on understanding early galaxy evolution, during the epoch of reionization and cosmic noon. She is an expert on the interstellar medium of star forming galaxies, starbursts, and AGN host galaxies at high redshifts. While using a multiwavelength empirical approach, her main specialisation is (far)-infrared, mm and radio wave observations, in particular the ALMA telescope. In addition to this, her group has also been leading efforts to probe for fainter galaxies through stacking and have delivered tools available for mm and radio interferometry.
Kirsten K. Knudsen got her PhD in Leiden in 2004 and is now a professor in astronomy at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden
